Also known as Japanese horseradish. This plant is a semi-aquatic that grows wild alongside streams in the Japanese mountains.
Once established you can pull pieces of the root away from the main plant and use as you wish. The grated root is very pungent and is mainly used as a condiment for sushi. Add wasabi sparingly to dips, sauces, pasta, chicken and tofu for a real punch to the flavour.
Plant in rich, wet soil in full shade. Ideal for large containers.
