Purple globe artichokes are similar to the Green Globe variety, but with a finer flavour.
They produce deep purple, tender hearts on large stems.
Steam or boil the hearts, then add melted butter or hollandaise sauce for a delicious delicacy. Pick the hearts regularly to promote new growth. If the hearts are left to flower, they produce large purple/blue thistle-like flowers that are very attractive to bees and butterflies.
Plant in rich, fertile soil in full sun.
