This unusual basil originates from Mexico.
The leaves have a hint of purple colour to them and are highly scented. First the scent of basil followed by a strong scent of cinnamon is experienced when rubbing the leaves.
The leaves can be used in spicy dishes, curries and salad dressings.
It can also be used in Thai dishes. Add towards the end of cooking.
Plant somewhere sheltered from wind in rich, fertile, well-drained soil in full sun.
