Angelica is best known as a decorative confectionery for cakes. You can add the leaves to stewing rhubarb or gooseberries to add a sweetness without adding excess sugar. Being monocarpic it tends to have a three-year lifespan. It produces large, sweetly scented flower heads that form in the second year. Once mature, this plant will take up a lot of space, so be sure to choose the best spot for it. Plant in rich, fertile soil in part shade.
