This plant is highly aromatic and produces beautiful red flowers in summer that are very attractive to bees and butterflies.
The petals of the flowers can be sprinkled over salads. The chopped leaves can be added sparingly to stuffing and to flavour jams, jellies and lemonade. Add the leaves to tea for an Earl Grey flavour.
Bergamot can be susceptible to powdery mildew. Make sure the plant has enough air flowing around it at all times and is not overcrowded by other plants.
Plant in rich, fertile soil in part shade. Can tolerate full sun.
